Panama, among the most competitive countries in Latin America
Panama is now one of the most competitive cities to do business within Latin America, by ranking number 7 in the magazine America Economia, moving four places up.
The ranking of the most competitive cities to do business in Latin America, on its 2010 version, revealed that Panama beats major cities like Bogota, Montevideo, Lima, Brasilia and Monterrey in Mexico.
In 2009 Panama City ranked number eleven, behind Monterrey, Montevideo, Bello Horizonte, Lima and Bogota, while this year the city is on position number seven.
Among the cities that achieved a better position were Miami, Río de Janeiro, Panama and San Jose, Costa Rica.
The city´s improvement is partially thanks to the authorities effort to get out of the black lists, according to Fernando Arango, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama.
Nevertheless, he pointed out that the legal and citizen certainty of the country has to be guarded very carefully, if not the foreign investment will go away. To carry on this ranking the magazine took into account aspects like: the availability to do business, economy´s size and dynamics, workforce, personal services, corporate services, connectivity, branding and sustainability.
Panama has a high quality of living, which attracts the foreign investment, expressed Antonio Boadas, Procter & Gamble´s vice-president of External Affairs for Latin America.
